Audubon International visits Seabrook Island to discuss its Sustainable Communities Program

Audubon International visits Seabrook Island to discuss its Sustainable Communities Program.  After visiting all the Club and POA amenities, touring Freshfields, Bohicket Marina and Kiawah Island, Suzi Zakowski, the Society’s program manager outlined what it would require to receive a Sustainable Community designation.  She told the Seabrook Island Property Association’s board of directors that there are three stages which must be completed:  The first stage requires the appointment of a sustainability coordinator, the formation of a steering committee and the completion of an assessment to determine the community’s position relative to Audubon International’s fifteen focus areas as well as a demonstration project.  Stage two requires the community to create a vision for long-term sustainability.  Stage three requires the community to take action and expand both its short and long term goals.  Once these stages have been successfully completed Seabrook Island would receive the designation of a Certified Audubon International Sustainable Community.
