A great place to go for breakfast or lunch is the Golden Cup Café which is located at the corner of Maybank Highway and Bohicket Road in the small shopping center directly across the street from the Piggly Wiggly or as it is affectionately known, the Big Pig. Golden Cup Café serves breakfast and lunch daily with delicious full plates of local stone ground grits, breakfast sandwiches, homemade pastries, potatoes, blueberry pancakes that are loaded with blueberries and just about anything else you could want for breakfast.  Breakfast prices run about $5-$6 while lunches run around $8.  Some favorite lunch specials have been spinach salad with all the trimmings, chicken wraps and French Onion soup.  There is also a full lunch menu from which to choose.  An interesting fact is that new chef, Julia Barstow, was trained by Emeril Lagasse.  She plans to begin offering more specials using local John’s Island ingredients.  Golden Cup Café is open Mon-Fri 7:30 AM to 3:30PM, brunch on Sat/Sun from 9AM to 3:30PM.  They want you to know it’s a “kid friendly” place.

A new addition to our beach entries are three new Loggerhead Sea Turtle learning stations.  As a means to celebrate their 30th anniversary on Seabrook Island, the Seabrook Island Natural History Group collaborated with the Seabrook Island Property Owners Assn. and the Turtle Patrol to place informational signage about turtles to educate the young and the young at heart about our seasonal visitors.  The Natural History Group is also exploring the idea to put education stations about local dolphin and fish and wild life in Palmetto Lake by the Lake House.

The POA reports that the relocation of Capn Sams Inlet (between Seabrook and Kiawah) is moving along albeit at a painfully slow pace.  The amount of time it takes to process the permits is largely determined by how quickly the State and federal Agencies move.
