A special weekend event on Kiawah Island that combines culinary talents of the country’s leading chefs with an array of wines from some of the most respected winemakers in the world to be held at The Sanctuary.  The weekend kicks off with a black-tie dinner and follows with an interactive wine symposium, a cooking demonstration luncheon and grand wine odyssey.   The Grand Finale features live entertainment plus live and silent auctions. The mission is to raise funds and awareness that will benefit the MUSC Hollings Cancer Center.  The 2010 featured chef is Chef Patrick O’Connell who’s accolades include five times James Beard Foundation award winner including Restaurant of the Year in 1993, Best Chef in the Mid-Atlantic Region and the prestigious Outstanding American Chef Award for 2001.  For more information, go to www.gourmetandgrapes.com or call 800-654-2924.

10th Annual Kiawah Island Art and House Tour

The 10th annual Kiawah Island Art and House Tour, sponsored by the volunteer group Gibbes, etc., will take place on Friday, April 9, 2010, from 2 p.m. – 6 p.m.

This year, six stunning Kiawah Island homes that showcase spectacular art collections and dramatic views of the salt marsh, creeks, ocean, and woodlands have been selected.  For the first time, Gibbes, etc. will offer a silent art auction as part of the House Tour.  For information on Kiawah Island Real Estate listings.

Tickets to the House Tour are $55 per person and include the tour, light refreshments throughout the afternoon at the Cassique clubhouse, and an admission pass to the Gibbes Museum of Art valid through December 30, 2010.

 Johns Island, SC -   Habitat Young Professional Oyster Roast in February had a turn-out of over 100 people and were able to raise over $1,300 for East Cooper & Sea Island Habitat.  According to the group. 

Big thank you’s went out to Surf Bar, The Renovators and Kiawah Island Golf Resort.  Sea Island Habitat for Humanity has been in the business of helping families in the ‘Sea Islands’ of South Carolina (just south of Charleston) achieve homeownership for over 30 years.   Their  mision is to provide affordable housing for low-income working families from James Island, SC to Edisto Island, SC.

Kiawah Island Golf – PGA Championship 2012

KIAWAH ISLAND GOLF - In 2012 Kiawah Island and the Ocean Course will host the 2012 PGA Championship. Kiawah has been the host of the 1991 Ryder Cup, the 2007 Senior PGA, the 1997 and 2003 World Cups, the 2001 UBS Cup and the 2005 PGA National Championship. The 2012 event will be the 94th PGA Championship and will make Kiawah Island only the fourth course to host each of the PGA of America’s major championships.

SEABROOK ISLAND GOLF - The transformation of Seabrook Island is complete. After the Club invested over $30 million in new facilities you might not even recognize the place. The new factilities include a spectacular new oceanfront Beach Club pool and outdoor restaurant complex plus an all new Golf and members Club House to go with its 36 holes of Championship golf courses; and an amazing Lake House Community Center with indoor and outdoor pools; a 6000 square foot fitness center, play area and events lawn.

JOHNS ISLAND – Red Sky Restaurant closes in Febuary. It’s true and locals are sad to learn that Chef/owner Matt Bolus has closed his Johns Island restaurant located near the entrance of Seabrook Island.
