The Oak Point Golf Course on Kiawah Island has recently undergone improvements over the last few years which has enhanced the quality and golf experience for our guests. This course was originally designed by golf course architect, Clyde Johnston, on what was once a former indigo and cotton plantation. He use the surrounding maritime forest, the Kiawah River and the Haulover Creek to create a layout with a rolling landscape, challenging greens, and flowing fairways that golfers have enjoyed over the years. In 1997 Oak Point was purchased by the resort which brought the total number of championship courses to five which makes Kiawah Island one of the largest golf destinations in the world.

The course has undergone many changes through the years. The front nine of the course completed major renovations in 2004 with the guidance of Clyde Johnston. The renovations included moving the green on No. 1 back about 130 yards which increased the hole from a 402 yard par 4 to a 530 yard par 5. To add to the challenge of this hole, the green is now surrounded on three sides by water. A new 9th hole was created with a 152 yard par three with beautiful views of Haulover Creek next to the new clubhouse.
Golfers are sure to enjoy the beautiful vistas and if a thinking approach is used rather than focusing on power shots, the rewards will be many. That may be why Oak Point was awarded 4 ½ stars by readers of Golf Digest magazine in their “Best Places to Play” poll.
In addition to the ultimate experience on the course, golfers will also enjoy the Lowcountry style clubhouse featuring an expansive porch overlooking the 18th green and Haulover Creek and beautiful hardwood oak floors. After a great day of golf what could be more relaxing than ordering from the grill, having a cocktail from the full service bar, and enjoying the views from the rocking chairs lining the porch.
Overseeding and aerification of Oak Point Course are scheduled for May 23-27, 2011 and July 25-29, 2011 the course will be closed during those times. Carts are restricted to paths October 31-November 15 during overseeding.
